I do agree that quality content is a good marketing pillar, but I still think it's important to go out and show this "quality content" to people. It takes a looong time people you generate the deserved buzz about your product if you are not pro-active about spreading the word. what do you reckon?

I think a start-up has to have content creation as a marketing pillar. If you are creating quality content, whether by article, pool, video, or survey you will win. Great content generates inbound leads and inbound leads generate sustainable businesses.

I think folks who put aside marketing to do other things for their business think that the marketing piece is easy. Of course, owners of startups think what they have to offer is the best thing since bread and therefore the "if you build it they will come" mentality creeps in. As marketing professionals we hope to find that entrepreneur who is willing to relinquish some control and take advice from the experts. We know they're out there!

Thanks for sharing your views Rebecca. I just find it hard to understand why people say they don't have the time to do any form of marketing until they are done developing. Marketing should and must be considered a part of the 'development' if anything.Just like you said, startups must find resources that will help them develop AND execute the plans that will help them gain traction. That's invaluable. cheers!

Your recent blog post is 100% accurate. Creating buzz and traction in the marketplace before you launch gets your target audience excited about what's to come. Developing an effective marketing campaign is key and I agree with you that marketing is an intrinsic part of a company's success.

I work with startups and small businesses on the marketing front and what I hear a lot is "I don't have time to do marketing". Startups and small businesses can find affordable resources to help them develop and execute plans that will assist them in generating leads, pr, traction, brand image, and ultimately customers.

Great post. Thanks for the insight.

Rebecca Ryckman, Owner
The Stiletto Group
Make an Impression
